Today, video is an essential part of the learning process. But often students are faced with the problems of slow video downloads. While video files are getting higher in resolution (quality), Internet speed (especially in pandemic mode!) Cannot satisfy the demand. Despite a faster Internet connection and greater bandwidth, online video distribution has become a really time-consuming task.

Downloading a large video takes longer, and mobile traffic is not always unlimited. This disappoints and worsens the experience of students, which can lead to loss of customers due to a bad first impression, or if the video does not load at all.

But there are several solutions that can help solve the problem, improve the experience of your students, and save your time.

✅ Shorter Tutorial Videos

The best solution is to split the longer training videos into shorter segments. Short videos (up to six minutes is ideal) are much better suited for online learning purposes. So, for example, if you have a very long video that lasts an hour, it is better to divide it into six separate ten-minute videos. Thus, your students will be more willing to watch your content, and you can easily replace them in the future.

A short video counter reduces listening time and allows the student to absorb information in short portions before moving on to the next part of the training.

✅ Video compression

But, in addition to segmentation, you must also learn how to compress the video, regardless of whether it lasts six minutes or longer. Compressing videos can save you time in downloading and storing videos. A shorter video file size also means faster loading times and less buffering for your students.

Good compression software can halve video size. But you may ask:

Q. Will it hurt the quality of the video?

A. No, if you use the right software, you can compress large video files without losing quality in almost any format. Here I am going to use , one of the best free video compression tools without loss of quality.

✅ How to use Handbrake to compress video

Download and install the software. When you open the program immediately asks you to select the video file that you want to compress.

For online learning, it’s better to check the “Web optimized” box because we want to use video on the Internet.

Since to achieve a given level of quality for any given part of any video, a different bit rate is required, the output size is unpredictable and varies from source to source. If you use a high enough bitrate, the quality of your video will be very good. An average of 2500 is the best option. However, if you appear on the screen as a speaker, we recommend that you use 3000 Kbps. If you choose consistent quality, you'd better keep the RF below 32 for best results.

You can leave the rest of the settings as they are. Select “Browse” to select the destination of the file on your computer.

Tip : You can save the changes you have made as a profile for the future so that you do not have to change them. If you click the plus sign, you can easily create a new preset.

After that, you can either start compression, or add your project to the queue, open another one and select the last created setting if you want to apply the same parameters to your previous videos.

Now you can click the “Start Encode” button and wait for the process to complete.

You can compress all the videos you have prepared at the same time.

The time will vary depending on the file size.

That's all! Simple and easy!

Tip: we recommend that you save the original copy of your video as the main version so that you can re-compress the video in the future to any other format you may need, and we also recommend that you always keep backup copies of your original videos.
